Sounding the Depths

Sounding the Depths by Michael Milton is a refreshing  look at the High Priestly Prayer in John 17. In this series of six sermons (previously published as Oh the deep deep love of Jesus), Milton gives an expository and applicable gaze into the content of this great prayer. Each sermon is topical in approach and laid out as follows:

1)  Compassion
2)  Truth
3)  Submission
4)  Faith
5)  Humility
6)  Trust

Milton takes each topic and compares a biblical understanding and worldview to the contemporary misunderstanding of each. exalting Christ as the supreme example.

I would suggest that you take a look at this book devotionally. Read each chapter and reflect on the questions at the end of each chapter (questions for reflection always are of great profit!). Think through these areas in you own life. Consider what how the world views such things. And then apply this great prayer to your own life in a fresh way – by God’s grace and for His glory.

If you are a pastor, you will find the book helpful in both sermon preparation and in day-to-day shepherding of the flock. It will prove helpful in your ministry as you seek to point your sheep to their Great Shepherd.

I received a free copy of this book from EP Books in exchange for an honest review. Other reviews can be read at Sounding the Depths Blog Tour.
